Visiting Eureka Springs in the winter is special – it is quieter, the air is brisk, the trails are bug free, and the shop keepers are all ready for a nice visit. For those that have “discovered” Eureka Springs, AR during the winter already, they know how wonderful it is and they keep coming back. For those that are new to exploring our winter wonderland there are a few tips that can be helpful to make your stay even nicer:
- If a shop is closed, but they have a sign on the door that says to call them and they will open for you – Call them! They are happy to open their doors just for you! Really, I know in a big city that would be unheard of, but it is one of the true perks to shopping in Eureka Springs, the owners actually want to open and be there for their customers. Don’t be shy, call them!
- If a shop is closed on the day that you are visiting, this is an opportunity to discover something new that you might not have visited in the past. With over 100 shops downtown it can be impossible to visit them all during a visit, so the winter is the perfect time to visit shops you might not have gone in the past. Not sure where to go? Ask another shop owner – they are happy to send you to your next destination! They usually know what is open and can point you in the right direction.
- Feeling a bit chilled? Warm up with a spa treatment! Many of our spas offer “hot treatments”, tub soaks, and saunas – check out the different options and warm up on a chilly afternoon.
- Feel like a local! Winter is REALLY the time to feel like a local in Eureka Springs – because we are all here too! Eat breakfast at a local cafe, shop at our local markets (including the Farmer’s Market on Thursday mornings), get your hair done at one of our many salons, walk a trail in Lake Leatherwood, pick up the Citizen newspaper and read about the latest Citizen of the Week, spend an evening in a booth at one of our local clubs and get to know the folks around you – soon you’ll be just like one of us!
